A Movie for the Deep Eccentric Only!
This diaboloical work of a movie compelled me to write my first ever review. I have never been so confused about a movie before. The imagery is of great quality, and the actors did an amazing job although I wish they were not needlessly exposed so badly. The happenings are entirely symbolic and can mean a numerous score of things. Happenings such as the relationship between every animal and what happens to it to the emotion linked to it, the woman's extreme sexuality and hate of her kind, the man's instinct to quickly solve problems and not allowing her time to grieve, causing the woman and the story with it to spiral out into insanity leading to genital mutilation which I admit to be of the utmost horror, making me cringe although I am the kind of guy who laughs at horror movies. Perhaps it is the kind of movie that needs a very deep, deep individual that analyses and tries to understand everything to appreciate it because superficially it is disgusting, stupid, plotless, pointless, and lacks a satisfying ending and clear explanations.

Boring yawn fest.
This remains the only film I have ever walked out of at the cinema. Simply put, this film is increadibly boring. Artistically beautiful but thematically empty, its graphic sex scenes and gore seem to be there for shock value alone, though I even yawned through the famous clitoris-snip scene near the end. Pointless waste of film.

8/10Great
More like a painting than a movie... it has the intense undercurrent of some of Polanskis earlier works (The Tenant, Repulsion) the artistic imagery of Cremaster 3, or any of Peter Greenaway-- Murder By Numbers crossed with the sadistic elements of The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover. terribly flawed, but fascinating to look at and experience... very slow, BUT often the slowness and the stillness are what make it work when it does. DEFINITELY not for everyone, but if you DO find someone else who is willing to get through it, youre in for a long night of discussion over a bottle or two of wine after.
