Profile of American History X

The mood of American History X is disturbing, tense, and sincere. The plot centers around rebelliousness, a violence spree, and racism. It is a drama and crime movie. Stylistically, American History X is nonlinear. In approach, it is serious and realistic. It takes place, at least partly, in a prison and in an urban environment. American History X is set in California. It happens in the 1990s. Visually, it is partly black and white. American History X is known for being essential viewing, an award winner, and critically acclaimed. Note that it includes strong sexual content, strong violent content, and nudity.

Summary of American History X

Edward Norton gives an impassioned performance as Derek Vinyard, a Southern Californian skinhead who must do time after committing a hateful murder. Once in jail, his mind opens and he sees the error of his ways. Upon reentering the real world, he must now turn his attentions to his younger brother Danny, who is swiftly heading down the same path as his brother. Controversy surrounded the film when director Tony Kaye disowned it, claiming that Norton had the film re-edited without Kaye's permission. Norton still got an Oscar Nomination for his intense performance.

this is a great movie about the issues of rascism in america. I saw it once, a year or 2 ago, and immediatly went out to buy it. it IS a must own movie. Ed norton is outstanding. personally, this is my favorite movie of all time. Read and rate it
