Tremendous acting and a moving story. Great sets, costumes, dialogue--all was first rate. I give the movie 5 stars, with 1 reservation. The editing could have been a little clearer. There are a lot of movies that start in the middle, flashback to the beginning, and when the flashback catches up with the middle, continue to the end. This movie did that, but kept jumping back to the middle, and back to the flashback. It got a little confusing to keep all those faces in identical wigs apart between jumps. Either a linear progression or single flashback would have worked. Thus, the editing left something to be desired, especially as some scenes would jump years in minutes with no indication as such. Also, some speech and actions seemed a little anachronistic--would Equiano really have had a book signing with people lining up to get his autograph like he was Stephen King at Barnes and Noble?
All that said, it did not detract from my enjoyment, so I highly recommend it. Really a moving story.

Amazing -- because it's true. Not that they didn't probably take some artistic liberties with it all, but basically a true story. A little slow at times, but quite thought provoking

A moving, tender, epic story of the abolition of the slave trade in England. Told with a subtle poignance by director Michael Apted and acted brilliantly by Ioan Gruffudd, 'Amazing Grace' mightily surpassed my expectations and kept me interested the entire time--no small feat for a British period piece.
