Boy, this could have been 5 stars all the way. The only problem was the lack of a freaking picture for about an hour of the movie. The scenes are so pitch black that you can't see a damn thing but the subtitles if you have them on.

It was almost 2 stars and almost 4 stars. Two because its hard to watch cruelty and suffering. Four because its compelling. If it was not based on a true story it would seem as if its plot was too discounted from reality. But it is telling a truth...

A startling film. The brutality (and there is brutality) is not the centerpiece of the film, but rather these young, brash, self-caricatures play the center, pivotal crux. And at first, it may seem as though you've seen these young, too-big-for-their- britches white thug characters in other movies already. But you haven't. These guys are fully realized, human characters, and it's not long into the film until you start to feel like you are a part of their world. This is something that has never happened to me before in a movie like this. The feeling is one of dismal desperation. The mood is one of disease and destruction...with a tad slice of hope and youthful optimism playing at the periphery. Don't worry: Cassavetes will steal that hope from you before the film is over, in a grand, enormous gesture that, while it may infuriate you, is all too approriate and just RIGHT for the film. Promising performances by Emile Hirsch (he shines in this years 'Into the Wild') and Justin Timberlake.

Just an absolutely tremendous movie. Probably the most watchable bad movie I have seen in a very long time. Just main bad guy Truelove is about as terrifying as my little cousin who is fifteen, which to be fair is how old the actor was as well.
The parents are stupid (though expensively cast). The kids aren't tough at all, even if they walk around with guns. The drug drops are so obvious that I would probably rob those idiots. The girls... well, in their words "this shirt is cool. Bob Marley is cool"
However, there were four of us watching and all of us laughed like were high little preteens. Definitely a movie to put on if you want to lighten the mood. I couldn't figure out whether to rate one or five stars. Turns out the bad outweighed the good. Enjoy anyway.
