Unfairly panned
A film about how the underdog can prevail in a place where the underdog never does. An ultimately uplifting and heart-warming tale with plenty of proper "laugh-out-loud" moments, it also has moments where you really squirm for the lead's awkwardness. However, Ms Bullock has now proved that she can turn her hand to romance, thriller, drama and flat-out slapstick. LOVED this film and would heartily recommend it to anyone in need of something upbeat and quirky.

Originally, I was going to give this a four. Not because I didnt love it, just because I have a tendency to rave about things that arent rave-worthy and I try not to do that. But I think, for the genre it is, this does deserve at least a 4.5.
I was in a particularly bad mood today when my mom suggested we watch a movie. Its not something we do often and I know I was being a grouchy downer, so I caved. I scrolled lazily through the On Demand menu when she pointed the title out. I thought I was just humoring her when it started; it did look good, but I wasnt sure if I wanted to sit through a whole movie.
Im SO glad I did. Its fantastically funny! Remember that way-too-happy girl in junior high that never shut up and always knew the answer? Mary Horowitz.
The unexpected ending is what made me give it five stars. Sometimes things dont turn out the way you think, but that doesnt mean the journey was for naught. Theres a few lessons to be learned from this, too, along with some good quotes.
