Enchanting
Being a Burton/Depp/Carter fan, I went to this movie expecting nothing less than the best and it delivered. A perfect cast with excellent sets and graphics. Mia seems to be an upcoming star.

Burton never intended this movie to be a tribute to Carroll's Alice; instead he intended to showcase his own dark feelings about childhood and pander to Depp fans who loved Edward Scissorhands.
Certain members of the public, including Burton, love freak shows. They love to contrast the beauty of an innocent child with the twisted mentality of the adult who within remains an angry child. The satisfaction Burton receives by envisioning children exposed to ugliness and uncontrolled adult violence is a sin against humanity.
No one who has read L. Carroll's books as a child could see any commonality with this movie. I encourage people to pick up Alice and Through the Looking Glass, and spend a few hours experiencing the pleasure of childhood.
While Carroll's books did not eschew violence of a certain type, they did not focus on the darkness; the child Alice ultimately was guided by kind "adult" characters toward safety and resolution of conflict in her childhood world.
I'm anxious for Mr. Burton's children; I hope they are not exposed to this type of "entertainment".

Under normal circumstances I might have reviewed this movie, but when NF implemented the new DVD page detail design they removed friends' ratings, top 10 lists and the ability to send movie notes. That made it harder for me and others to find movies...

This film was disappointing for me. I normally love all things Tim Burton, but his vision of Alice did not work for me. I think it could have been cast a lot better, and I also think they could have done a better job with the costuming. With the exceptions of The Red Queen and The Mad Hatter, I found the costuming really disappointing.
While it's a great adventure tale, it just really did not work for me. It's not that I'm a purist--I'm all for retelling the old tales--it just did not work, in my mind.
It was a fun watch, and overall, a good film, but not, IMO, a good retelling of Alice in Wonderland. I really wanted to give it 2 1/2 stars, but the system only seems to allow for whole numbers, and I did not want to say I didn't like it. I just didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

Good but not in any way exceeding expectations..
The world, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter made this movie good, and it could have been great overall had they not ruined the ending all throughout the movie. Revealing Alice killing the beast in the beginning of the movie was a huge mistake, this movie lacks any form of tension. Overall I enjoyed the movie and that's why it is 'good'.

let me preface by saying i am near 20 years of age. there was kids and parents in the theater who got laughs out of it and seemed to enjoy it. but i thought this was just plain bad. i cant even give it credit enough to call it awful; it didnt evoke even that much emotion from me. thought it was extrememly bland all together. characters were static, plot was boring, bad dialogue, visually i expected more, and no stand out performances. it could have been so much more. i was expecting a wildly twisted and entertaining trip but was let down completely.
wouldnt recommend it to any of my friends my age...maybe kids will enjoy this movie more though.
