I wanted to like this. I really did. I've always been interested in ancient history and Greek mythology, so this should have been a great movie for me. Unfortunately, it suffers from problems no movie can overcome, first and foremost being lack of plot. It meanders horribly and the constant flashbacks don't help at all. The second problem is Colin Farrell. The man can't act! He has two facial expressions, dazed and angry. If the point of the movie was "Alexander was a raving lunatic" then they nailed it. But, somehow, I don't think that's really what they had in mind. The third problem, which is really jarring for those of us who expect some realism in supposedly historical films, is the fact that everyone in this film is speaking with an IRISH ACCENT! IN ANCIENT GREECE! If anyone can shed some light on the reason for that one, please tell me, because I'm truly baffled.
Don't waste your time with this piece of garbage. You will regret it.

Every year, critics choose a movie to declare as the "worst movie of the year" and it becomes popular to hop on the bandwagon and bash the movie, too. Such is the case with Alexander. While it may not be the best movie ever filmed, it's no where near as bad as everyone will lead you to believe.
Yes, the film has its flaws: less than stellar battle scenes, strange accents, not-so-great casting, and a terrible score. But, the acting was still decent. The imagery was stunning. Alexander's life is well presented in just under three hours, a feat by itself.
Don't let others keep you from seeing this movie. If you're interested, rent it and form you own opinion.

Three hours of disappointment
This movie didn't really hold my interest. Am I really supposed to buy into Angelina Jolie being Colin Farrel's mom? Other than that, it's not a complete disaster, but a bit too long if you ask me. I'll take "Troy" over it any day.
