Absolutely not this piece of tripe. While the animation effects were well done by a lot of hard working individuals, that is where the talent ends. Being a lifetime fan of all things sci-fi, fantasy and anime, there was not a single element of this movie that was fresh. It was the same tired old plot, served cold, as it took a long time to grasp my interest. Then only the last 5 minutes of the film were exciting, only to be be let down by the actual ending. If you are looking to drown yourself in escapism, pass on this movie.

The only complaint I can find about 'A Scanner Darkly' is that I wish there were a version available where I could see it 'un-animated'; which is, the film that was shot before people drew over it. Now, I don't have a problem with this new and interesting filmmaking style; quite the opposite, I think this could be used to make some truly incredible films. I just don't think 'A Scanner Darkly' needed this treatment, and the performances (Woody Harrelson turns in a stellar and surpising performance) are good enough that I yearn to see the original facial expressions, lighting, etc. Aside from that, this is a solid film that blends sci-fi with gritty drama and drug abuse; definately worth your time.

(on a side note this is a very good movie and i found that it is an accurate portrayal of what drug addiction is.

i don't know if it the twisted plot or the unique combination of animation and real actors ,but you can't really compare it to other movies. this movie is about our near future ,and the addiction for a new drug and how the government try to "save"...
