Epic 2.5 hours of pointlessness
The original short story is about five pages long, and that's about how much story this movie has. That tiny bit of story has been stretched for over two hours, and it really gets thin, especially at the end.
Haley Joel Osment was an exellent cast for the lead, cause he really looks creepy and somehow synthetic. The quality of production is in every way exellent and professional, but the absence of story makes it all seem pointless. And despite of the movie trying really hard to make me feel sympathy for the kid, as the movie progressed I found myself caring less and less.
I understand that not every movie needs a story, but for me the lack of one is a dealbreaker. With sience fiction I expect it to be food for thought, but this was just sentimental garbage for sentimental non-science fiction audiences.

A. I. was a movie that when I saw the previews for it, I thought that it would be extremely boring. I was wrong. You really start to feel for the main character even though he is just a machine. You think tha in some way he really is special. The ending is both happy, and sad, which is a pretty amazing feat.

This is not a movie, this is pretentious art. Pretentious, but actually making GOOD on its pretense; from my point of view, not in the negative sense of the word. Questions are asked and possible answers given, letting the viewer decide for themselves. Mindbogglingly impressive camera-action. Brilliant soundtrack. One big, very bad problem: it has no idea how to end. Very, very bad ending, one of the worst endings ever. Stop watching this when there are 25 minutes left.

I can't understand all the praise for Haley Joel Osment - he was like a Stepford kid! He just really freaked me out - the imprinting of the robot on his new family just did not work because the "child" was just creepy... I really tried to enjoy this movie, but the boy's acting was too painful - how many long sad expressions needed to be shot? Many of the effects were impressive but this is not enough to make the movie enjoyable - chopping an hour from the running time might have helped! Lastly, why tell a 21st century Pinocchio story and not call it Pinocchio?
