I don't really know why people think this film is so good. The first quarter of the film pretty much is pure crude rape and murder. The only part I enjoyed was when he was "cured" and everyone was taking revenge on him... other reviews mentioned feeling sorry for him at this point but I felt the opposite, he raped and murdered people and he didn't regret it at all. I will admit the soundtrack was really good and worth listening to. Don't get me wrong, I watch violent movies all the time and have seen some disturbing movies but this plot was just too crude and senseless for my taste.

Kubrick's masterpiece
This may be the film that started my love of film. I first saw this at age 13 on late night cable at a friend's house and was amazed by it. I snuck viewings as much as I could and eventually got around to reading the book and finding different copies of it. This is one of those rare movies that you can debate with people who either love it or hate it. The idea of a man's being good being enough to make him a good man is intriguing. If you are a film fan and you have not seen this, Clockwork should be on the top of your list. And don't forget to read the book! There are different copies - some with a glossary in the back, and some with an extra final chapter.

So many messages embedded into this one movie about society and crime, and Alex is the perfect character to display them all. This is a great film and I give it a definite 5 stars! If you haven't seen it, RENT IT.

A Clockwork Orange shows us the true darkness that's out there.Stanley Kubrick made this film to show us the stuff most people are blind to or just seem to avoid.Set in the future,A Clockwork Orange shows us how those evil actions that are done throughout this world will never really end unless we put the time and effort into making this planet a better place to reside and a genuinely nice home for all.The character of Alex is one of purely cruel intentions and at such a young age there's must still be hope for him, right? This deranged story of young Alex is given to us to show the struggle to change our ways but when you're someone completely different how can there be any chance?

So the book is better. Okay. That's a given. Maybe I just can't get over how awesome Stanley Kubrick is. I think I've seen every single one of the films he directed. They're all beautiful. Do I put too much stock in cinematography? As to the film's main character, even though for the most of this movie he is an unrepentant sociopath, I don't believe that for one moment I have felt anything for the character of Alex except love. I think they did a really good job of making you feel like Alex's parents and truant officer. You so much want him to grow up and behave himself. You know that if he can straighten up a bit, that he'd turn his charm and natural leadership into a more productive line of work. But no. He gets caught. He slips. He's too cocky. You know what, you've known people like Alex. People who were hellions in their youth. We almost all grow up. This movie is 100% perfect direction, cinematography, score, characterization and everything else. (Watching The Prisoner recently made me think of this movie. There's oddities and eccentricities in the world they create. You can almost see yourself moving through this world and it making sense.)

4/10Disappointing
Good music and interesting cinematography, but not much else about this movie appealed to me. It's hard to say if the acting was any good since every character behaved so... oddly. The story, which focuses entirely on the character of Alex, played by Malcolm "What the hell happened to my career?" McDowell, is fairly well-paced, but because Alex is such a repulsive person, it's hard to care what happens to him on his bizarre journey. And frankly, I could have done without all those brief, but overt glimpses of his junk. Furthermore, I don't know why they bothered setting this story in the future, as there was nothing particularly futuristic about the plot, and the campy, 70s look of everything in the film certainly never made me feel like I was seeing the world of tomorrow. The only remotely interesting thing I gleaned about the future was that all art will apparently be pornographic in nature. How inventive. I suppose all the violence and nudity in the film was shocking for its day, and in some ways it still is, but then so was Jackass: the Movie. To me, shock value alone does not make a movie great.

In 20 years this masterpiece will still be ahead of its time. One of the most memorable characters of all time, with a script that's absolutely mindblowing and a soundtrack that... this movie is SO GOOD!!! Malcolm McDowell's voice-over is chilling as he introduces himself and presents himself (later in the movie) as the victim of a society gone mad. The atmosphere the film creates is disturbing, and there are rough scenes that are hard to watch. But this is the world Kubrick wanted to show us - and a fantastic world it is... "oh yes, I was cured alright..."
