Directed by Roland Emmerich, and starring John Cusack - although not his best performance - this is a film based on the ancient Mayan prediction that the world is meant to end in December 2012. There is a little storyline set up before hand, which is centred around the protagonist Jackson (John Cusack), Jackson's ex-wife, his two kids, and his ex-wife's boyfriend (who is conveniently killed off during the film). The most interesting character however, is a paranoid radio show host, who lives in a caravan set up in, of all places, Yellowstone National Park. When the action starts, it is one after another of near misses where the main characters barely escape, until you reach the point where you just want it to hurry up and end. The disasters shown are all in epic proportions, and look impressive as the entire planet seems to erupt into one massive volcano, but that is just about all this movie has to offer. One and a half stars from me. Symeon.
