Not every Sci-Fi fan's favorite, but it marks the spot as one of a kind classic.
Well twisted Sci-Fi flick that doesn't scream Sci-Fi is a good thing.
Especially when the movie is about love story, Sci-Fi genre doesn't really work well, however this film definitely delivers.
Grainy and dark pitch tone of the cinematography...

Not every Sci-Fi fan's favorite, but it marks the spot as one of a kind classic.
Well twisted Sci-Fi flick that doesn't scream Sci-Fi is a good thing.
Especially when the movie is about love story, Sci-Fi genre doesn't really work well, however this film definitely delivers.
Grainy and dark pitch tone of the cinematography is something of a resemblence of a David Fincher. But it stepped bit more to make it feel like it's from foreign, not from hollywood.
9.5 in my book.

A good movie bogged down by odd direction and cinematography choices. Seriously, not every shot has to be a dutch angle, and whats with the carnival music?

The weirdest thing of all is that I think this movie caused me to have very odd dreams about time travel. Ive never had a movie keep me awake all night. Ill probably never watch this again.
Oh the plus side, Willis and Pitt are both at the top of their game.
Such weird dreams.

12 Monkeys is an ingenious Sci-Fi Film. Based off of a Chris Marker short, 12 Monkeys takes the idea of that short and expands it into a much fuller world. The plot is engaging and twisting, leaving the viewer wondering where the story is going.

Fate, we don't need no freaking fate
You can't change to past, can you? Oh man, you want to, tho. You hope and hope that it won't be like you saw it. Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt... oh Brad Pitt... the scenes in the state mental ward with Pitt are so great. This was the first time I personally saw Pitt as anything except a pretty boy. And Willis was suddenly an ACTOR in my mind. Not just an action/adventure shoot-em-up dude. Of course, he does sport a lot of blood and injured body parts in this movie, too. But he's wonderfully insane trying to understand the world and time and what's worth living for vs. what's worth dying for. Can he save the world and the girl and himself? I like non-linear plots. We live linear, but my mind, at least, doesn't think that way. It all fits perfectly together.

I can't say enough good things about Terry Gilliam. I have yet to see a film from him that I've regretted watching up to and including his work with Monty Python. In the case of 12 Monkeys, well, I have seen this film countless times and still find it highly entertaining and a very tight film throughout. I'd rank it in my top 10 Science Fiction films as well. I give it a Bravo!

Like pretty much every time travel story, the logic behind this one doesn't hold up too well under close scrutiny, but that doesn't matter. It's still an entertaining ride, with a clever script and lots of good examples of Gilliam's warped sense of humor. The acting, especially from Pitt, surprisingly, was quite good and the camerawork and visuals were top-notch. Just don't expect the plot to make perfect sense.

Director Terry Gilliam's portrait of insanity, paranoia, time travel and totalitarianism, this film will almost make you crazy. It features Gilliam's trademark off-kilter camera angles, scenes lit from multiple directions and set designs so full of crap that you'll feel claustrophobic just sitting on your couch. Not to mention incredibly intense and bizarre performances from Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt (one of Pitt's 3 best performances, if you ask me) that were both deserving of much more recognition than they received. From start to finish an absolutely difficult film to watchÂ…because it fully succeeds in all it's aims.

A great science fiction movie featuring an excellent cast. A movie that explores the threat of biological warfare. It seems kind of generic, a time traveler who goes back in time whom no one believes, but the idea that he didn't intend to affect the past, but gets tied up in the lives of these people. And in the end when he is unable to change anything, and that he sees himself as a kid, is great. Highly recommended for people who like science fiction, especially movies that make you think.
