After watching the very fine and (mostly) quite serious "The Way I Spent the End of the World" several weeks ago, I came across this unlikely movie on a directly related subject. Only this one has a sardonic if realistic tone to it---a dry comedy. Over 15 years after the revolution against the Communist government of Romania, freedom more or less reigns, including a small time entrepeneur running a little TV station. As a faintly pompous station manager /wannabe-journalist, he wants to know: Who was a hero? Was it before or after it was still dangerous? With an increasingly mildly out-of-control phone-in talk show on the local station, it ends on a note of bemused reconciliation: look outside and appreciate the beauty of the snow before it melts and becomes something else. Very witty in a subtle way. The last half is a sort of chaotic "My Dinner at André's," in the best sense. 4.4 stars. 11.09
